ProofStack
ProofStack vs Starter Story: an honest comparison
Their strengths first, because they are real. Starter Story (observed 2026-08-05): nearly 3,000 case studies, roughly 200k subscribers, free to read with an email, acquired by HubSpot in February 2026. If what you want is volume and founder-story inspiration, pick them and stop reading here.
We do a different job
- Every number carries its source. Revenue and pricing claims link to their public origin with an evidence grade (company-disclosed vs third-party estimate) and a date. Products without a public price say "not disclosed" instead of an estimate.
- Every case must state what does NOT transfer. Each success story has a part that only worked for that founder — an existing audience, years of SEO, a support cost only a solo maker absorbs. That is the half case studies usually skip, and the half that burns people.
- Structured data yields statistics. Because pricing is recorded field by field, we can compute the median first paid tier, free-tier prevalence and paywall distribution across comparable products. Narrative articles cannot produce that.
- Describe your problem, get an answer. Write one sentence about what you are building in the validation tool and get back a pricing benchmark, the phrases your customers actually type, and the non-transferable warnings quoted from matched cases.
When to pick Starter Story
You want breadth, founder interviews, and inspiration across many niches. They are far better at that than we are.
When to pick ProofStack
You are past inspiration and inside a specific decision — what to charge, what the free tier includes, where the first users come from — and you want the grounds to be clickable evidence rather than screenshots you cannot verify.
Claims about third parties reflect their public pages on the dates stated; check them yourself.
